Clear icon in the search field does not work

When you type text into the search field, it displays both a cancel icon and a hint to use the Esc key.

When you hover over the cancel icon, it changes to the click cursor and displays a tooltip, but clicking the icon does nothing.

Pressing the Esc key does clear the search field.

This is on a mac on Chrome.
