Advice: Handoff ocasionally not working

Hello, and thank you for your work on the Agents SDK 🤖🚀

I’ve been working with the Agents SDK for some time now and have run into an issue related to agent handoff behavior.

Issue description:
Instead of successfully handing off execution to the target agent, the triage agent responds with a message such as “I’ll hand this off to the XY agent”, which blocks the execution.

I’ve tried improving the prompt as well as adding the handoff_description field, but the issue persists.

Is there any additional guidance or recommended approach to ensure reliable agent handoff? This behavior has a noticeable impact on the user experience, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A quick thing to try is using the recommended prompt prefix: https://openai.github.io/openai-agents-python/handoffs/#recommended-prompts. Beyond that, refining the full set of prompts and instructions can generally make handoff behavior more predictable.
